The participants of the seminar were welcomed by the State Secretary Mitja Bricelj who has stressed the importance of territorial cooperation for achieving the goals of Lisbon and Gothenburg Agendas in his opening. In addition he emphasized the need for cooperation and common action I the field of river basement and coastal area management. 

The seminar, which was attended by more than two hundred participants, brought together programme representatives, representatives of numerous international organizations and potential project partners sharing project ideas, needs for transnational cooperation, past experiences and future expectations. Needs for joint actions on transnational level were expressed by representatives of European Commission, CEMAT, programmes ESPON and URBACT, European Environmental Agency, Carpathian Convention, Central European Initiative, International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River, UNEP – Mediterranean Action Plan and CIPRA Slovenia.
